December 22, 1944

The battle of the Southern Shoulder and Hill 313 are important to this story. The fog of battle, friendly fire, bitter cold and a turning point in the war. The VE Day and the Voyage Home are now complete.


Brother Mike has provided information about William Sikes, Geneva Sike's grandfather and Carl's great-grandfather describing Williams service during the Civil War on both the Union and Confederate sides. I'll be creating another section in the Legacy of Service specifically marked for campaigns endured by our ancestors. Stay tuned!


I have really tried to format this blog for mobile devices. I have come to the conclusion that there is just too much information for a small screen and mere swiping through. This blog is a study in family history and is best presented in a larger screen format. With great apologies, I ask that for the best viewing of this blog to use a personal computer or laptop. Mobile devices are great for surfing but are woefully inadequate for a concentrated read.
